Shell Centre London (Sodexo)

Shell Centre London Campus uses Hawkr for large screens in restaurant area and refreshment hubs for menus and staff information

Key points

  • Shell Centre London Campus c/o Sodexo uses Hawkr’s remote content management system to update media content on restaurant screens, large refreshment hub screens and coffee machine media screens
  • Shell updates catering offers and company-wide brand messages to staff visiting the communal refreshment areas on each floor of their office building
  • Shell and Sodexo non-technical staff can now update the screens using Hawkr’s easy-to-use content management system
  • Shell and Sodexo previously using a more expensive, time consuming and limiting digital signage system

The Hawkr system is easy-to-use, intuitive and allows us to promote our first-class restaurant menus and services to our staff and visitors. It saves us significant time and resources managing the network and has cost us a fraction of the alternative solution. We have exciting ambitions to expand beyond the refreshment areas into other parts of the building and transform our on-site communications’.

Darryl Le Grange, Operations Support Manager, Shell Centre London Campus.

Client overview

Shell is one of the world’s largest energy companies operating in 70 countries worldwide. Shell’s UK headquarters is based next to Waterloo station in London and is one of the most iconic buildings along the River Thames Southbank.

Sodexo is a multinational food services and facilities management company headquartered in France. Sodexo is one of the world’s largest employers with over 420,000 employees representing 130 nationalities and are present on 34,000 sites in 80 countries.

The project

Shell and Sodexo installed a brand new restaurant and catering facility in the flagship Shell Centre London office including new digital screens in the restaurant and refreshment areas on each office floor. This included several coffee machine media screens and large digital screens, ideally located for communicating with staff and visitors.

Hawkr was commissioned to set up the digital signage system allowing Shell and Sodexo to remotely manage this network of media screens all over the building.

Security is the highest priority for both companies and the Hawkr system is connected to the Guest WIFI network to ensure separation from Shell’s internal IT network. This was reinforced by Hawkr’s cutting-edge hardware and software security technologies.

Results

Previously, Sodexo and Shell used an inflexible and difficult-to-use digital signage system. Only one person in the management team was comfortable updating media content, costing time and money in an already high-pressured building management environment.

Hawkr has flipped the digital signage system from a time and resource drain to an invaluable and effective way to promote catering services and to communicate with building staff and visitors.

The coffee machine media screens, by a large number of staff daily, have also been included within the digital signage network to increase communication opportunities.

Off the back of the success of this project, there are ambitions to expand the Hawkr system to other Shell buildings within the UK and further in the future.

Hawkr says

‘Sodexo and Shell can now easily update media to their screen network and scale the solution beyond the refreshment and catering areas of the building. We are excited to help Shell and Sodexo communicate more effectively with their staff and visitors’ Chris Davison, Managing Director, Hawkr
